• This event is licensed by the Amateur Athletic Union of the U.S., Inc.
• All participants must have a current AAU membership.
• AAU membership may not be included as part of the entry fee to the event.
• AAU Youth Athlete membership must be obtained before the competition begins, except where the event operator has a laptop available with an internet connection.
• Be Prepared: Adult and Non-Athlete memberships are no longer instant and cannot be applied for at an event.
• Due to background screenings, please allow up to 10 days for adult memberships to be processed.
• Participants are encouraged to visit the AAU website www.aausports.org to obtain their membership.

2018 Pacific Northwest AAU Karate District Championships & National Qualifier

Top 16 athletes qualify for the 2018 AAU Karate Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale, FL & the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, IA this summer. Please feel free to contact your district representative for more information.

Registration Fees:
One Event: $55, two events: $65, three events: $75
Synchronized Kata: 430 per team (or $10 per person)
Late Registrations incur a $25.00 convenience charge


All proceeds benefit the athletes of USA Karate Club of AAU, a registered non-profit and 501 c 3. Fees are not refundable. Thank you for your support.

8:00 am - Doors open for athlete credential pick up and check in.
9:00 am - Events begin (18-34 Advanced and Kobudo athletes will be staged first)
9:00 am - Opening Ceremony with welcome and all athlete march in


Spectator fee: $5 for adults 11 & Up
$3 for Under 11 & 62 + yrs

Divisions: Kata, Kumite, Kobudo, Team Kata

Beginner - Less than 1 year

Novice - 12 months - 23 months

Intermediate - 24 months - 47 months

Advanced - 48 months plus

Rules: Modified AAU rules will be in affect. Visit aaukarate.org for tournament rules and regulations.

Awards: Custom medals for first, second and third place. Junior competitors receive a participation ribbon.

Outstanding Athletes will be awarded for Youth, Juniors, & Adults

Outstanding Support School Award for the dojo with the most participants.

Lodging: Embassy Suites by Hilton, Seattle North-Lynnwood Call 800-628-0611, and reserve your room by March 30, 2018. Mention USA Karate Academy or Canadian Martial Arts Academy.

Dress Code: Athletes must wear a solid white gi. Sleeves and pants must be hemmed to appropriate length. (No rolled up sleeves or pant legs). AAU Patch or NO Patch may be worn on the left chest. Officials must wear a white shirt, grey slacks, blue, red or AAU tie, black shoes and socks, and a navy blue blazer. All Officials please also bring a whistle.

Mandatory Equipment: Helmets with face shields for fighters 17 & under, groin cups for all male fighters (worn inside the uniform), red, blue, or white naugahyde fist pads and mouth guard for all fighters. Proper uniform and mandatory equipment required to participate.

Optional Equipment: Shin and instep guards for juniors, shin guards for adults, chest protectors for all, helmets with or without faces shields for adults, certified glass with strap or soft contact lenses for those who wear corrective lenses.

Disallowed items: Headbands, jewelry, colored t-shirts metal hair clips. No long and/or dirty fingernails, or rolled up sleeves and/or pant legs.



Medical Release:
ATHLETE WAIVER/RELEASE FORM (“AGREEMENT”)
By clicking the "I Agree" you are electronically signing this agreement indicating that you have read, and understood the terms and conditions, refund policy, and release of liability, you are 18 years of age or older or the parent or legal guardian of the minor registering for this tournament or event. In the case of registering a minor you attest that the name entered as the parent or legal guardian is the name of the person accepting the agreement and you are in fact the parent or legal guardian of the registered minor.

IN CONSIDERATION of being permitted to participate in any way in The Pacific Northwest AAU District Championships and National Qualifier, I,for myself, my personal representatives, assigns, heirs, and next of kin:
1. ACKNOWLEDGE, agree, and represent that I understand the nature of the Activity and that I am qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in such Activity. I further agree and Warrant that if at any time I believe conditions to be unsafe, I will immediately discontinue further participation in the Activity.
2. FULLY UNDERSTAND that: (a) ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES INVOLVE RISKS AND DANGERS OF SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, INCLUDING
PERMANENT DISABILITY, PARALYSIS, AND DEATH (“RISKS”): (b) these Risks and dangers may be caused by my actions or inactions, the actions or inactions of others participating in the Activity, the condition in which the Activity takes place, or THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE “RELEASEES” NAMED BELOW: (c) there may be OTHER RISKS AND SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC LOSSES either not known to me or not readily foreseeable at this time and I FULLY ACCEPT AND ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOSSES, COSTS, AND DAMAGES I incur as a result of my participation or that of the minor in the Activity.
3. HEREBY RELEASE, DISCHARGE, AND COVENANT NOT TO SUE the WA Karate Services, USA Karate Academy, Joni and Alan Sharrah, including related affiliated and subsidiary companies of each, as well as the officers, directors, agents, employees and assigns of each, lessors of premises on which the Activity takes place. FROM ALL LIABILITY, CLAIMS, DEMANDS, LOSSES, OR DAMAGES ON MY ACCOUNT CAUSED OR ALLEGED TO BE CAUSED IN WHOLE OR IN PART BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE “RELEASEES” OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING NEGLIGENT RESCUE OPERATIONS, NEGLIGENT SECURITY, TRAVEL, AND RECREATIONAL OPERATIONS AND ACTIVITIES: AND I FURTHER AGREE that if, despite this RE4LEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT I, or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the Releasee’s, I WILL INDEMNIFY, SAVE, AND HOLD HARMLESS EACH OF THE RELEASEES from any litigation expenses, attorney fees, loss, liability, damage, or cost as which any may incur as the result of such claim.
Agreement to Participate
I, or we, grant to the Directors, Assistants, or assigned chaperons of this event to act as guardians/spokesmen in granting permission for emergency treatment/hospitalization (including anesthesia) if necessary for my child en route to or from or at the site of karate event or hospital or other medical facility. I understand that should a health emergency arise, I will be attempted to be notified, but that if I cannot be reached by telephone, such medical treatment as deemed necessary by competent medical personnel is authorized.
I hereby authorize the tournament directors to allow the reproduction, dissemination, and/or publication of my name and likeness for media coverage, public relations, or any other purpose which may involve the use of photographs, films, and/or video tape recording, This is to be done in conjunction with my participating in this karate event and I understand and agree that I may neither pay a fee to receive individual promotional consideration from my participation in this event, nor will I receive any payment for the possible commercial use of my name or likeness.
I REALIZE THAT THERE ARE NO REFUNDS.
MINOR RELEASE: AND I, THE MINOR’S PARENT AND/OR LEGAL GUARDIAN, UNDERSTAND THE NATURE OF ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES AND THE MINOR’S EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES AND BELIEVE THE MINOR TO BE QUALIFIED, IN GOOD HEALTH, AND IN PROPER PHYSICAL CONDITION TO PARTICIPATE IN SUCH ACTIVITY. I HEREBY RELEASE, DISCHARGE, COVENANT NOT TO SUE, AND AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND SAVE AND HOLD HARMLESS EACH OF THE RELEASEE’S FROM ALL LIABILITY, CLAIMS, DEMANDS, LOSSES, OR DAMAGES ON THE MINOR’S ACCOUNT CAUSED OR ALLEGED TO BE CAUSED IN WHOLE OR IN PART BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE “RELEASEES” OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING NEGLIGENT RESCUE OPERATIONS AND FURTHER AGREE THAT IF, DESPITE THIS RELEASE, I, THE MINOR, OR ANYONE ON THE MINOR’S BEHALF MAKES A CLAIM AGAINST ANY OF THE RELEASEES NAMED ABOVE, I WILL INDEMNIFY, SAVE, AND HOLD HARMLESS EACH OF THE RELEASEES FROM ANY LITIGATION EXPENSES, ATTORNEY FEES, LOSS LIABILITY, DAMAGE, OR COST ANY MAY INCUR AS A RESULT OF ANY SUCH CLAIM.
I HAVE READ THIS AGREEMENT, FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS TERMS, UNDERSTAND THAT I HAVE GIVEN UP SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS BY SIGNING IT AND HAVE SIGNED IT FREELY AND WITHOUT ANY INDUCEMENT OR ASSURANCE OF ANY NATURE AND INTEND IT TO BE A COMPLETE AND UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE OF ALL LIABILITY TO THE GREATEST EXTENT, ALLOWED BY LAW AND AGREE THAT IF ANY PORTION OF THIS AGREEMENT IS HELD TO BE INVALID THE BALANCE, NOTWITHSTANDING, SHALL CONTINUE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT.
