Tournament Background:
I am pleased to announce to you the 30th annual COLORADO KARATE CLASSIC Memorial Tournament and to cordially invite you and your students to attend. The tournament is scheduled on Sunday, November 4th, 2018, at Niwot High School, 8989 Niwot Rd., Longmont.

This tournament is in the fine traditional spirit of karate-do. It is sponsored by Wado Karate Federation of U.S.A. and hosted by Wado-Kai Shudokan Karate, Inc. With your help, I am hoping to provide a safe and rewarding tournament for our athletes. Thus, the tournament rules will be strictly enforced to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the competitors. To ensure a smooth operation of the tournament, Div. 24 (Women 36-45 years Int/Adv), Div. 25 (Women 46 years & up), Div. 33 (Men 46-59 years Int/Adv) and Div. 34 (Men 60 years & up) will be performing first at 9:00 am. Please also note that the individual kata competition is conducted by the head-to-head flag system. Team kata and Kobudo competitions are conducted by the point system.

I am hoping that this tournament will enhance our friendship, and promote traditional karate-do in this area. In order to achieve the above goals, I would like to ask your help in refereeing or judging at the tournament. If you or your qualified students can help us with refereeing or judging, we would greatly appreciate it.

Time: Div. 24 (Women 36-45 yrs, Int/Adv), Div. 25 (Women 60 yrs & up),
Div. 33 (Men 46-59 yrs, Int/Adv) & Div. 34 (Men 60 yrs up): Starting time 9:00 a.m.

Children and Junior [Div. 1-20, Team (T-1 & T-2), Kobudo (W-1 & W-2)]: 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Adults (Div. 21-32): Starting time 1 p.m.

Location: Niwot high School, 8989 East Niwot Road, Niwot, CO.

Contestant Fee: Individual Events: Two Events - $55.00, Three Events-$60.00
Team Kata or Kumite: $60/Team

Spectator Fee: Adults (18 & up) - $6.00, Children (6-17) -$4.00, 5 yrs & under-Free

Regulations: WKF Rules of Karate Competition (2017 Version) with the following
modifications

Kumite: All divisions except Male Advanced--2 minutes, stop time
Male Advanced--3 minutes, stop time (Division S-29 only)
All divisions--8 points ceiling
Kata: May perform any traditional Japanese or Okinawan kata.
Individual Kata: Head-to-Head Flag system
Kobudo and Team Kata: Point system


Coaching: Two coaches from each dojo are permitted to the competition area. Coaches must attend coaches meeting, 8:30-9:00 am, on the day of the tournament.

Mandatory Equipment:
White karate-gi, cloth or vinyl fist guards (white, red, blue), mouth
guard, and groin protector (males)

Optional Recommended Equipment:
White head gear (children & juniors), shin guards, instep protectors, chest
protector (female)



Medical Release:

In the case of registering a minor you attest that the name entered as the parent or legal guardian is the name of the person accepting the agreement and you are in fact the parent or legal guardian of the registered minor.

In consideration of being permitted to participate in any way in the 2018 Colorado Karate Classic Memorial Tournament and/or being permitted to enter for any purpose any restricted area (herein defined as any area wherein admittance to the general public is prohibited), the participant, parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) of any minor participant(s) named below agree
1. The participant acknowledges, and the parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) will instruct the minor participant, that prior to participating in the Colorado Karate Classic Memorial Tournament, he or she should inspect the facilities and equipment to be used, and if he or she believes anything is unsafe, the participant should immediately advise the officials of such condition and refuse to participate. I understand and agreed that, if at any time, I feel anything to be UNSAFE, I will immediately take all precautions to avoid the unsafe area and REFUSE TO PARTICIPATE further.
2. I/WE fully understand and acknowledge that: (a)There are risks and dangers associated with participation in martial arts events and activities which could result in bodily injury partial and/or total disability, paralysis and death.(b) The social and economic losses and/or damages, which could result from these risks and dangers described above, could be severe.(c) These risks and dangers may be caused by the action, inaction or negligence of the participant or the action, inaction or negligence of others, including, but not limited to, the Release’s named below.(d) There may be other risks not known to us or are not reasonably foreseeable at his time.
3. I/WE accept and assume such risks and responsibility for the losses and/or damages following such injury, disability, paralysis or death, however caused and whether caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the Release’s named below.
4. I/WE HEREBY RELEASE, WAIVE, DISCHARGE AND COVENANT NOT TO SUE Wado-kai Shudokan Karate, Inc, Wado Karate Federation of USA, Niwot High School, and St. Vrain Valley School District RE-1J, including its owners, managers, promoters, lessees of premises used to conduct the Colorado Karate Classic Memorial Tournament, premises and event inspectors, underwriters, consultants and others who give recommendations, directions, or instructions to engage in risk evaluation or loss control activities regarding the martial arts facility or events held at such facility and each of them, their directors, officers, agents, employees, all for the purposes herein referred to as “Release”...FROM ALL LIABILITY TO THE UNDERSIGNED, my/our personal representatives, assigns, executors, heirs and next of kin FOR ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, LOSSES OR DAMAGES AND ANY CLAIMS OR DEMANDS THEREFORE ON ACCOUNT OF ANY INJURY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE DEATH OF THE PARTICIPANT OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE EVENT(S) CAUSED OR ALLEGED TO BE CAUSED IN WHOLE OR IN PART BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASEE OR OTHERWISE.
5. I/WE HEREBY acknowledge that THE ACTIVITIES OF THE EVENT(S) ARE VERY DANGEROUS and involve the risk of serious injury and/or death and/or property damage. Each of THE UNDERSIGNED also expressly acknowledges that INJURIES RECEIVED MAY BE COMPOUNDED OR INCREASED BY NEGLIGENT RESCUE OPERATIONS OR PROCEDURES OF THE RELEASEES.
6. EACH OF THE UNDERSIGNED further expressly agrees that the foregoing release, waiver, and indemnity agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by the law of the Province or State in which the event is conducted and that if any portion is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding continue in full legal force and effect.
7. On behalf of the participant and individually, the undersigned partner(s) and/or legal guardian(s) for the minor participant executes this Waiver and Release. If, despite this release, the participant makes a claim against any of the Release’s, the parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) will reimburse the Release’s for any money that they have paid to the participant, or on his behalf, and hold them harmless.
I HAVE READ THIS RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT, FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS TERMS, UNDERSTAND THAT I HAVE GIVEN UP SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS BY SIGNING IT, AND HAVE SIGNED IT FREELY AND VOLUNTARILY WITHOUT ANY INDUCEMENT, ASSURANCE, OR GUARANTEE BEING MADE TO ME AND INTEND MY SIGNATURE TO BE COMPLETE AND UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE OF ALL LIABILITY TO THE GREATEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW.
