Tournament Background:
Dear Athlete, Sensei, and Officials,

April 26, 2014 the USA-NKF of Northern California, Inc. National Karate Championship Qualifier for the USA National Karate Federation National Championships and USA Team Trials in Fort Lauderdale, FL July 15-19, 2015.

This year we will also be our 6th yr. of USANKF of Northern California USA Grassroots Karate Cup competition. Many Grassroots development programs will be bringing in their athletes to compete in this tournament. Some of the USA Grassroots Karate Program athletes just finishing a great performance at the 2014 Jr. Pan-Am’s, and on to the Pan-Am’s in Bolivia, and then to World’s in Indonesia. The USA Grassroots Karate State Program group, who wins the most divisions, wins the Gold Cup Award, cup for 1st, 2nd place, and 3rd place Cup Award. Two Samurai swords donated by Tiger Claw Martial Arts Supply awarded for top male and top female of the tournament.
Athletes can even compete just for the sake of competition with some of the best athletes in Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Southern California, and Nevada.
The door registration will start at 8:00am. The tournament will begin at 9:00am. There will be Officials Meeting at 8:30am. The USA-NKF Modified Rules of Karate Competition will be used in all divisions. WKF Divisions will be combined with Advanced Divisions so athletes will qualify in both NKF and WKF Karate Divisions.

All contestants must be registered athlete member of the USA National Karate-do Federation if they plan to go to Fort Lauderdale, FL. Athletes must pay the Federation Day Membership Fee for $5.00 for insurance for the competition. For Kumite, groin cups (male competitors only), mouthpieces and fist pads are mandatory. All competitors are required to wear a plain white Karate-gi. Only the USA-NKF patch is allowed on the Karate-gi. No patch indicating the competitor’s school or style may be worn. This is to reduce the possibility of judge’s bias towards specific styles or schools. At the Regional qualifier, school patches may be covered up by white tape. However, this will not be an option at the Nationals.

All Kumite competitors are recommended to wear the Federation- approved Red & Blue fist pads only. However, all competitors in the WKF Kumite divisions are required to wear the approved fist pads. The Adidas-style fist pads are also permitted in the WKF division only. Competitors’ age is determined as the first day of Nationals 7-15-2015.

U.S. Citizenship is required to enter the Advance and WKF Divisions for Team Trials. This is because these divisions qualify athletes for the Junior and Senior USA National Team Pools Trials. For more information, please contact Sensei Gene Tibon (209) 465-0943.
